Stakeford River (11/04, 10:00 am)

Post by Hollis Brown on Sun Nov 01, 2015 1:52 pm

It is a cloudy day, but the rain has finally let up a bit.

Along the river, the man whose brown hair is in a ponytail is strumming his acoustic guitar. He is wearing a long, brown hooded sweatshirt and blue jeans.

Brandy Smith is walking along the river. Her hands are in the pockets of her purple hooded sweatshirt.

The woman in the pink dress is rowing her canoe along the water. She is humming the same tune as before.

Jackson was tired, but too restless to sleep. Especially after responding with the Sheriff to the latest murder in Stakeford. Also, having just gotten off a 36 hour shift over the last two days, his mind was still at work when all he wanted was to turn his brain off. Strangely enough, it wasn't the latest murder in Stakeford that weighed on his mind, but his family back in New Zealand. Having left the clinic, he drove to a place that always helped to clear his mind ever since he moved to Stakeford back in June. He pulled up into a parking space atop a small bluff that looked down to the river. Leaving his 2015 GMC Canyon pickup to idle, he stepped out of the cab, a water bottle in hand. He flipped up the hood on his hoodie which covered his overalls he wore for work. He let out a sigh as he took in the sight, before looking down the hill towards the river. He spotted the brown haired man strumming his guitar. He then looked to the river, spying a canoe and its occupant in a pink dress. Jackson found it rather odd that someone in November would still be wearing a dress, let alone riding a canoe in late fall. He then spied Brandy Smith who was walking along the river. Curiosity would have had him walking down to join both Brandy and the guitar guy, but physical exhaustion got the better of him. Walking back to the truck, he opened the door, tossed his water bottle in the cup holder, then climbed in. Closing the door, he cranked up the heat in the truck, turned the radio on low, and was soon napping, his head resting against the window of the drivers door.

A couple of hours pass while Jackson naps in his truck.

Then, over the quiet sounds of the radio, a chinking sound can be heard from inside the truck. Outside, Samson Jr. is throwing small pebbles at the driver's side window. The pebbles are being aimed near Jackson's face, mostly around his eyes and mouth.

As "Stylin' on the Island" by Brent Burns played quietly over the radio of his pickup, Jackson quietly awoke from his nap, inhaling deeply. It was the soft "tink" noises off his window that woke him up. Blinking the sleep from his eyes, he turned to the source of the noise, and immediately eyed Samson Jr. Anger flared in his eyes as he opened the door and stepped out of the truck, walking in a quick pace towards Samson Jr.

"He's alive! He's alive!"

Samson Jr. points toward Jackson while looking over his shoulder. Reggie is leaning against a nearby tree, looking at his brother while slowly shaking his head.

"I told you he was just sleeping!" Samson Jr. calls as he begins to walk backwards, away from Jackson. Reggie watches as his brother trips while walking backwards, so that he falls back on his bum and is left looking up cautiously at the towering Jackson.

Jackson towered over Samson Jr. He was angry, but it was a symptom likely tied to the lack of sleep he had. Jackson sighed, and knelt down to Samson Jr.'s level. He gave a friendly smile, of which exhaustion swiftly removed as he gave a loud yawn. "C'mon bud. Best you and your brother get on home... or school... why aren't you boys at school?" Jackson asked, eyeing Reggie before looking to Samson Jr.

"Momma homeschools us," Reggie explains.

"She says Satan is in our schools," Samson Jr. elaborates.

Reggie looks at Jackson for a moment, and then says quietly, "She is just worried about us. She's always been worried, even before the murders at the well."

Samson Jr. mimics Reggie's half-whispering and says in a similar tone, "I just let one out. It's silent and deadly. You've been warned."

Samson Jr. looks at Reggie and smiles wide, so his teeth show.

THE RIVER IS CLOSED
